SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) -- A Dominican TV show host accused of setting a U.S. magician's head on fire tells The Associated Press that it was an accident.
Franklin Barazarte said in a phone interview Tuesday from New York that he tossed flaming liquid on Wayne Houchin's head as a "blessing" during a Nov. 26 taping of the show. He said it was a demonstration with magical religious overtones that turned out badly.
Barazarte was serving as a guest host on an astrology and variety show called "Closer to the Stars." He said his hands also were burned during the incident.
Houchin said in an e-mail Monday to the AP that he is seeking legal action. Prosecutors have said they are waiting for someone to file a criminal complaint so they can take action.
