A Detroit-area man charged with child abuse after police found his 9-year-old daughter driving is returning to court if see if the case will stick.
A judge in Woodhaven is holding a hearing Tuesday to determine if there's probable cause to send Shawn Weimer to trial. Police say he put his daughter behind the wheel of his full-size van after a day of drinking last month.
The evidence includes Weimer bragging about his daughter's driving skills while a surveillance camera rolled inside a Brownstown Township gas station.
Weimer's attorney, David Steingold, says he's offered to end the case with a misdemeanor plea deal but prosecutors aren't interested. He says felony charges are excessive.
