Three people have been killed and two others injured after the sport-utility vehicle they were in smashed into a tree in West Michigan's Calhoun County.
The Ford Explorer's engine was torn away in the Monday afternoon crash in Marshall, southeast of Grand Rapids.
A man and two women were pronounced dead at the scene. Another man and a woman were being treated at an area hospital.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Authorities say the SUV was traveling east on Interstate 94 when it left the freeway and hit the tree. The crash is under investigation.
