MUSKEGON, Mich. -- A contest is under way to find Muskegon County's most breast-feeding friendly business.
The Muskegon County Breastfeeding Coalition and other agencies say the contest seeks to identify the county business that makes it the easiest for women to continue nursing their infants after they return to work.
Mlive.com says the coalition will accept nominations through August. County public health Maternal Child Services Supervisor Gwen Williams says the goal is to raise awareness and recognize businesses that are promoting a healthy start for children.
Williams says about 54.9 percent of infants born in Muskegon hospitals and about 69.3 percent statewide are breast-fed when they go home. She says the Healthy People 2020 project has a goal of 81.9 percent of infants being breast-fed at some point.
