City Closes Auggie's and Metro Bowl Temporarily

Contrary to what Auggie's Pub and Grill believed walking in to Thursday's Public Safety meeting, the purpose was not to take away his liquor license; it was to discuss new ways to deal with the increasing crime at the site since July.

"During that period of time, we have had 51 calls for service. Out of those 51 calls for service, we had a total of nine shots fired," explained Lansing Police Captain Mike Yankowski.

Revoking their liquor license is the last resort for City Council and Lansing Police.

Ryan's liquor license also happens to be up for renewal in May. The City Attorney's Office says that is why they had to inspect the building recently, leading to it being red tagged for ceiling and electrical issues. Ryan says that is a lie, claiming no one has inspected the place for that license before.

The manager of Metro Bowl did not show up to the meeting. He also declined to meet by conference call. The committee says similar steps will be made with Metro Bowl as soon as they get in touch with the manager. His business was red tagged because of leaky ceilings, according to council members.

I just read about a place in Houston, Texas where somebody was recently shot. The police had been called to that club over 100 times in 7 weeks. There's only been 51 calls in 8 months for these 2 businesses combined. At least Augie's Mike had the guts to show up. I went to that bar a couple times before he owned it and it had problems then. It seems that it still has a lot of the same type of customers. That area always seemed to have good & bad people. Hopefully, the police will work to protect the area even when the bar isn't open.

I think everyone here has forgot got the real problem... The guy with the gun?? Lol. What happend to that story? any follow up on that... I don't think any business would want someone in there with a gun... Put yourself in the other people's shoes, how do you think they feel... Instead of pointing your finger at someone, point it at yourself and ask "how can I help out"....

To bad the city can not do the same for gunshot alley aka Waverly at Jolly. Bet there has been more gun fire in that area than at Metro and Auggies combined. Think QD has been shot up in the last 8 or 9 years about 12 to 15 times. But the city continues to ignore it along with both the Ingham and Eaton county Sheriff patrols. This is all pure bull, to make it look like the city is doing something. When in reality they are once again just sticking a band aid on a festering wound.

This business has not been red tagged and is NOT closed for business. WILX, your reporting is sub-par, at best. This level of inaccurate journalism is unacceptable.

The city should start issuing citations for these places that have an higher than normal incident of crime during their business hours.
