Church Vandalism Closes Church for a Week
For the third time in 10 years, the Eureka Christian Church in Clinton County is again a target of vandalism. This time the church was damaged so badly, Sunday's service is now cancelled.

Volunteers showed up at Eureka Christian Church to help clean up, but were shocked to find more damage than they could handle. Some people snuck into the church gym and had a ball blasting three fire extinguishers.
"It's everywhere. It's on the tables, on the chairs, on the lights, and on the floor. It's just filth," said Eureka Christian Church member Karry Shears of the extinguisher residue.
"When I walked in and saw the damage my heart fell to the ground," said 43-year church member Todd Colley.
The church pastor was forced to cancel Sunday's service, bible studies, and youth meetings for the coming week.
We have several elderly people in our congregation and people with asthma or allergies. If they breath that in, we don't want anyone to get hurt.
Their insurance company estimates the job will take at least two weeks to clean, but has not determined how much the damage will cost.
The residue for the fire extinguishers is still thick in the air 3 days after the incident and has covered nearly every surface. The people responsible left two notes leading the congregation to believe it was someone's idea of fun and games.
The notes that say,"I C U" and "Jesus died here," a basketball, and wheel chair left out point to adolescent misbehavior.
"Someone did it out of enjoyment. It makes me sick to look at this," said Shears.
Church leaders have filed a police report and are looking into a bell security system. They hope the people responsible will come forward.
