WWMT-TV and the Kalamazoo Gazette report the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety forwarded the case to the Kalamazoo County prosecutor's office with the recommendation that the driver face a misdemeanor of leaving a child alone in a vehicle.

The driver no longer works for Kalamazoo Public Schools. The charge is punishable by up to 93 days behind bars.

The child's mother, Jacqueline King, filed a police report after her daughter, Mya, returned from her first day of kindergarten Sept. 3 and said the driver left her alone on the bus while the driver went into a fast food restaurant at the end of the bus run.
