'Car of the Year' Award Presented in Lansing

"The way it handles, in its fuel efficiency, in the way it accelerates," he said. "In each case, I think Cadillac made the strongest case."

Motor Trend made it official, Friday morning. The Lansing-built Cadillac CTS is the 2014 Car of the Year.

If you wondered how the workers at the GM Grand River Plant felt about the honor, all you had to do was look at the 'We Made It' written on their t-shirts.

"It means a lot because the team has worked tirelessly," said Shenetra Moses, General Assembly Launch Manager at the plant. "Hours, weekends. Putting a lot of effort into making sure we are producing a world-class vehicle."

Beating out cars, like the latest BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Corvette, it doesn't get more 'world-class' than the Motor Trend award.

"For the CTS, it's the second time we've wont the Motor Trend Car of the Year in six years," said Tony Francavilla, Manager of the Grand River Plant. "Not too many cars can say that, so it tells you the folks here in this plant are doing a great job."

As Motor Trend Editor-In-Chief Edward Loh told the car's builders, the CTS more than met the necessary criteria for the award, which includes design, value, engineering and performance.

"The way it handles, in its fuel efficiency, in the way it accelerates," he said. "In each case, I think Cadillac made the strongest case."

In a plant tour, following the award presentation, Loh got to see first-hand how the car was made. The tour also gave workers the chance to hold the award they helped to win. An award that UAW Local 652 President Mike Green says is more proof Lansing workers are simply, the best.

"I'd put this workforce up against anybody, domestically or globally," he said.

Cadillac has won the Motor Trend 'Car of the Year' four times, including receiving the very first award in 1949.
