EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- That's a lot of beef.
The annual Michigan Livestock Expo auction raised about $200,000 for young livestock enthusiasts, well above the total in 2012. The event was at Michigan State University.
The Michigan Farm Bureau says Meijer purchased three of four grand champion animals and other livestock for $65,500. The livestock auctioned off this week included steers, hogs, lambs and goats.
Kids use the money for college or invest it in more livestock. The event is open to young people, ages 8 to 21.
Farm Bureau livestock specialist Ernie Birchmeier says buyers are demonstrating their commitment to Michigan agriculture.
