Ambassador Bridge Owner: Let Voters Decide

DETROIT (AP) -- Owners of the Ambassador Bridge say they are backing a statewide ballot proposal that would prohibit Michigan from developing a new U.S. to Canada bridge or tunnel unless voters approve.
The Detroit International Bridge Co. is deeply opposed to the state building a span that would compete with the Ambassador Bridge.
Matthew Moroun, whose family controls the privately owned bridge, said Friday that Michigan voters should determine the state's priorities.
The bridge company says petition language has been submitted to the State Board of Canvassers. It's the first step to collecting more than 300,000 signatures necessary to put the issue on the November ballot.
Gov. Rick Snyder wants to build a second bridge to Canada, but he's failed to convince enough lawmakers.
