AT&T Technician Saves Customer's Baby

AT&T technician Andrel Reid has been on the job for six months. Last Wednesday, he was sent to a customer's house in Lansing to fix her U-verse service.

That day's job didn't go as planned. In the middle of it all, the customer's baby was in serious trouble.

"She [baby] was coughing, it just started blocking up her system and she just started choking on the congestion. Around her eyes it was getting all red and she started turning different colors," said Christine Duffy.

Duffy was getting ready to dial 911 and sent her four-year-old daughter to get Reid's help.

"I put the baby in a position that I was taught in training, put the baby in my palm, flipped her over and gave her a light thrust to her back and that's when everything came up and the baby actually started laughing and smiling at me," Reid said.

Turns out, Reid is CPR-certified as part of his job training.

"We're in people's homes all day. Sometimes it's just us and the customer...Stuff happens and we're the only ones there," Reid said.

For Duffy, she says it's a mixed feeling of fear for what could have happened and relief that someone was there to help.

What a great job by Mr. Reid! Even the baby seemed to know she was in competent hands. I hate to think what may have happened to the baby (and maybe to Mr. Reid) if the sweet thing had not survived. This is the part that bugs me: "For Duffy, she says it's a mixed feeling of fear for what could have happened and relief that someone was there to help." Relief that SOMEONE was there to help? I sure hope she's also planning on getting that same training for herself (as the mother of an infant). This should be SELF-mandatory for all parents. Ms. Duffy was very fortunate this time. I hope she's ready if and when it happens again; kids die from choking all the time. Her little one could easily have ended up being just another unfortunate statistic. (Red Cross, Mommies and Daddies. GO!!!)

Either way a phenominal act of bravery. Whether as an AT&T employee or just acting as a human being, he got involved. Makes you ask the question "What would I do" given same situation. Kudos x2

So glad to hear baby's okay! Kudos to the tech who saved her. Well done. Now let's hope mommy bundled baby up and swept her off to the ER for follow-up care.

He may have known before this, but AT&T does do mandatory CPR training for new employees. Please get your facts straight.

Kudos to the tech. He is the one who deserves the commendation. At&t may have given him a CPR course and if by regular refresher classes you mean every five or so years... yeah.

"....unless they have changed it"?? You don't know? It gets updated quite frequently. Maybe YOU should check it out for yourself and get qualified, Ainslie.
