Governor Jennifer Granholm completed the annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge crossing in record time.
For the second consecutive year, Granholm wasn't content merely to walk over the bridge as previous Michigan governors have done since the late 1950s.
Instead, the 45-year-old Democrat jogged non-stop. She was joined by her husband, daughters, and a group of supporters and aides. About 300 other fitness buffs were allowed to run across the bridge.
Granholm finished the five-miles in 44 minutes, 43 seconds. She says the previous record holder was William Milliken, who finished with a time of 46 minutes, 50 seconds.
Thousands joined the 47th annual walk on a warm, breezy morning, beginning near the tollgates in Saint Ignace and heading south to Mackinaw City.
