When Ken Kurtz, the manager of Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale, Michigan, invited a few New York firefighters to a commemoration ceremony in Hillsdale, Michigan, he wasn't sure they would accept the offer.
Now, he's happy a battalion chief from New York was able to fly to the southern Michigan to help commemorate the attacks and to honor local heroes.
On Friday, New York Fire Chief Ronald Werner shared memories of the attacks with students at Hillsdale College. He also participated in a commemoration and flag raising ceremony. He will be speaking to the community again this Saturday.
