Law enforcement officials say they arrested about 1,000 drivers for drunken driving during a recent statewide crackdown.

Another 500 motorists were arrested for alcohol-related offenses, such as open liquor in vehicles.

More than 500 local, county and state law enforcement agencies took part in the crackdown between August 17th and September 3rd. The effort was coordinated by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Protection.

people just don't think before driving drunk. they think they can handle it,know it all. the laws just aren't strict enough to wake people up.many repeat there actions of driving drunk, till they get killed or kill someone else.I lost my 24 yr old son,do to a drunk driver.he left behind 2 children,a good job, ect. the other driver got 2 1/2 yrs.and released in 10 mo.he still drinks and drives, just hasn't got caught again. I've read many article on young people driving drunk, car explodes, all burnt to death, drunk driver at fault.it makes me sick.police officers see this stuff all the time, and I'm sure they see the need to stop it,but-sure we need more police patrol, cut backs-so what can we do.much stricter laws and programs to wake people up.get the point across the first time. to many get killed every yr.IT JUST NEEDS STOPED!
