A former Lansing police officer will spend four days in jail for being involved in a fatal crash in Mount Morris while drinking and driving.

Johnnie Torres pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of impaired driving, stemming from a February accident on I-475 at the Clio Road exit. Investigators say Torres collided with a car being driven by Mark Kline of Mount Morris after Kline ran a stop sign. Kline died.

In addition to the days in jail, Torres will pay $1,075 in fines and court costs, spend 12 months on probation and take part in a series of rehabilitation programs.

Both Torres and Kline had been drinking.

Torres was fired by the Lansing Police Department.

Well it does not suprise me that he is getting the lite sentence he is getting he is an x-police officer so that makes him better than everyone else so he is exempt for the same as others would get. This is a two sided law we have here and it is not right. He needs to do all the time like anyone else would. I know if this was me in this situation I would be locked up for alot longer cause I am not someone important. Someone needs to review these two sided laws they are not right. He was a police officer and he should have known better but it is obvious that he didn't and he is going to get off real easy for it. I don't care drunk driving is drunk driving and he should not be amune from the laws.
