Matthew Macon's early life was undoubtedly hard. He was in and out of foster care and he spent time at a juvenile center in Washtenaw County.
His juvenile record is officially sealed, but a corrections spokesman confirms it includes two criminal sexual conduct charges. The conditions of his parole would indicate it was likely a crime against a child.
As an adult, his rap sheet ran long. Court records show that since 1998, he's been charged with assault and battery, trespassing, unarmed robbery, and more. In 1999, he was busted for mugging a woman in Lansing. The charge landed him in prison in 2001.
He served the minimum--two years--and was paroled in spring 2003.
He violated parole--and went back to prison in December of that year.
He was released again September 2004. He was back in May 2006.
He was paroled one last time, one month before Ruth Hallman's murder June 26, 2007.
The charges he faces officially now stem from a home invasion August 9th of this year. The woman, Shymara Giles, called police. Their records list a home on N. Martin Luther King as his, but newspapers on the porch would indicate no ones lived here in years. Neighbors concur. The house is about a half mile from Ruth Hallman's house on Lapeer.
Tuesday night, Macon was picked up for failing to register as a sex offender.
That report says he lives in an apartment on Richwood off Miller Rd. The current occupants have his mail, but have lived there for more than a month.
Parole records show Macon's considered maximum security and reports once a week. He's failed three drug tests this summer. He last showed up at rehab August 3rd.
