A 17-year-old high school student has been found guilty of lying to police about a sexual assault.
Rebecca Shong showed no emotion when an Ingham County jury found her guilty of filing a false police report, a four-year felony.
Rebecca's grandmother says deputies used her granddaughter as a scapegoat. She says authorities “jumped the gun” when they arrested 50-year-old special-education teacher Craig Fry.
Fry was charged in January with three counts of sexual abuse. Prosecutors dropped the charges after police said the girl lied.
Fry died in June from a heart attack. His fiancée says the case took a toll on him.
Meanwhile, Shong has been ordered to in-home detention until a judge decides her punishment.
