The owners of Zehnder's Bavarian Haus plan to transform the hotel into an indoor water park hotel.
The nearly $10 million project calls for demolishing the older portion of the 30-year-old complex, which contains 48 rooms, said Al Zehnder, chief executive officer and chairman of the board for Zehnder's of Frankenmuth, which also operates Zehnder's Restaurant and The Fortress Golf Course in the Bavarian-themed community.
The new addition will consist of family suites with 63 rooms in a four-story structure and an indoor water park facility. The water park will include water slides, a walk-in pool and lazy river, he said.
The city planning commission will review the site plan at its Aug. 24 meeting. If all goes well, crews should complete work by June, Zehnder said.
The new family suites will bring the room total to 152. The addition will include game-room space, a 125-seat restaurant, lobby and guest registration area.
During construction, 89 rooms will remain open, as will an indoor pool. The water park will replace the outdoor pool.
