Dove Hunt Decision in September

The state Natural Resources Commission is expected to vote next month on whether to allow a mourning dove hunt in Michigan.

Michigan's first dove season in nearly a century would begin September 10 if the panel approves.

A trial hunt would be allowed in six southern Michigan counties. Hunters would be allowed to kill 15 doves a day each.

Opponents are trying to convince state officials to hold off on the dove hunt decision. They are trying to gather enough signatures to let Michigan voters decide the issue in 2006.
