The state owns dozen of buildings that are not being used and now they have to rent a facility.
I understand that many troopers are satisfied with where they are, and if they had a choice, they would have more troops on the streets protecting you and I, than a new building. This building I believe is a NO BID PROJECT and who really will benefit from it?
Rob, The State Police Sir don't require media attention like some in certain dept's. When you do a job well, the reward Sir, is just that, A JOB WELL DONE. A uniform worn with pride.
I see the County Sheriffs regularly, they cruise my neighborhood regularley, my taxes are in my owners house payment. I Lease with the option to purchase with a FIXED rate mortgage. I see state troopers once in a blue moon, its usually on the highway. Anyway, you talked of laying off permanently 30 troopers, or was it 32? just a few months ago, now you wanna spend 3 or 4 million on a building for these officers. This state sounds worse than the last presidental election, he bounces back and forth on issues, this state doesn't know where to put its money at, these administrators spend money like its growing on trees, but the problem is it AINT! Then you force cuts where they shouldn't be made, they need to pay off existing debt. 1$ a year as apposed to 3 million, sounds like a no-brainer to me.
How can the state afford to move the MSP. With the current strain the state budget is in, where will the money come from in 2009 for this move? Do our children need to take a back seat to MSP for a new headquarters. I certainly hope not, for our childrens sake. It seem's governor Granholm is doing plenty, by releasing all the prisoner's out early. What is it going to take, if we have no money to keep convicted criminals behind bars. We certainly don't need a new MSP HEADQUARTERS now do we..
Why can't we get more in depth investigative stories from our local news like this? This is just the AP that got this story. I'm tired of watching rallies at the capitol by the local "kooks for energy whatever" and being told by the anchors-who-don't-seem to-give-a-rip that it's news. Do some digging and give us more of this-- the state WASTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN A BUDGET CRISIS! How about common folks getting ripped off by ordinary business? It happens everyday! But I guess Sparrow's new thingamajig that MIGHT help detect skin cancer is much more interesting hard-hitting news. Heaven hel us!
The State Police don't need a new headquarters, they need to be down-sized and their funding should be turned over to the county Sheriffs' to fund more road patrol officers. When are people going to realize that State Troopers are some of the highest paid police in the state but trying to get them to do any work is almost impossible. If an incident doesn't require media attention you won't find a Trooper. Sure they look pretty but they are a waste of tax dollars.
And we had to lay off 60 officers because they could pay them.
Can we say MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS
I am going to vote for independents for the next election.
this is absolutely outrageous. $1 a year compared to $3000000 there should be no conflict as to which to choose especially with the state in such a financial mess. No wonder we have the mess to begin with.
Why not move the State Police headquarters to the prisons they want to close.
You have got to be kidding. The State can lease a building for $1 a year from M.S.U. or spend 3 to 4 Million to lease a building in downtown Lansing. (daaaa) Jennifer and the rest of the idiots that run this joke of a state will spend the 3 to 4 million on a building while our children go with out schools and teachers. OH and we are going to close the prisions but thats O.K. we have a "NEW Headquarters for the State Police.
see this is why we are in a state crisis with this kind of waste. lets see spend 1.00 a year or 3,000,000.00 suck it up and make due with what you have. at least until things are much better than they are now
