MI gets $3M to Preserve Saugatuck Harbor Area

Michigan is getting a $3 million grant award for land acquisition at the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area in Allegan County.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment is getting the money from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The city of Saugatuck will serve as the title holder and land manager for the conservation area.
The land includes dunes, wetlands and forest, 1,650 feet of the Kalamazoo River and 3,650 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline. It will be open to the public for some recreation activities such as hiking, fishing and bird watching.
