Walking Improves Health

Ernie Harwell, former announcer for the Detriot Tigers, will be leading "Walking Works" this Sunday at Oldsmobile Park. He says walking is a great way for everyone to get exercise.

Martha Glynn of the Edgewood Retirement Center agrees. She is 97 years old and she walks two miles everyday. She says it keeps her young.

Health experts say walking 30 minutes a day at least three times a week will help maintain weight, lower cholesterol levels, improve cardiovascular health and circulation. They say walking also has great mental and emotional benefits.

"Walking Works" is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield. It will be held Sunday, July 25. The walk starts at 12:30 p.m. For more information or to register to walk, visit www.bcbsm.com.
