Students on lockdown at Eastern High School in Lansing peer out the windows to a crime scene below: a car crash police say was the ending to a violent string of events.
"I heard the shooting, about four or five shots," says Raymond Myers.
The crime scene starts on Walsh and McCullough Streets, where Myers was working outside his home on Wednesday. That's where police say a man was shot in his car by someone driving another car.
"There were two cars on that corner and they took off," Myers says.
Police tell us the victim then drove his car northbound on Pennsylvania-- not stopping at nearby Sparrow Hospital to get treated-- then crashed the car with Indiana plates right into a parked SUV sitting outside the school. All people involved in the crash have been taken to the hospital, and LSD says no staff or students were involved in the crash. Meantime, the school went into code yellow lockdown as a safety precaution and parts of Pennsylvania were shut down.
"It's all under investigation," says Lt. Judy Horning. "There's no motive at this point." 34:18
"It's not comforting," says neighbor Todd Henley. He too heard the gunshots and says he also saw the suspect's older model cream-colored car speed off right afterwards. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect or the car.
"I've heard gunshots before, but nothing like this," he says. "You never know, if it's just someone randomly taking shots, you have to be concerned, obviously."
Police are still searching for a suspect.
