Michigan has adopted a zero tolerance policy meant to keep guns out of the hands of parolees and probationers. Governor Granholm says ex-inmates caught with a gun will be sent back to prison.
The measure calls for parolees caught with a gun to be returned to prison to serve the remainder of their maximum sentence or five years in prison.
The crackdown is meant to end a recent surge in gun violence in Detroit and other Michigan cities.
