Lead poisoning dangers may be lurking inside your spice rack.

A new Harvard University study found four children in the Boston area with elevated blood lead levels who had been exposed to imported Indian spices or powders.

Further investigation into stores that sell these spices revealed more
problems.

One quarter of imported food spices and products and one half of cultural powders had detectable lead levels, about double the amount found in American brands.

Researchers say these products could pose health risks for children and urge further testing of foreign spices and powders being sold in the U.S.
