Jackson Officer James Bonneau was laid to rest at the United Memorial Gardens cemetery near his hometown of Canton.
Hundreds and hundreds of police cars, lights a-flashing, led the procession. More than 1,000 officers extended their support, not only to Bonneau's family but to the Jackson Police Dept.
"It's a devastating loss for all of us," says Chief Larry Weeks of the Morenci Police Dept. "I didn't know him personally, but for most of us, it's like we do."
"We're all family, so losing one is like losing someone in your family," says Officer Mark Stanley of the Lansing Police Dept.
And in true family form, the Jackson Police Dept. traveled to the services together.
"We lined up all the marked vehicles, along with all the buses, ambulences, firetrucks and all the other emergency vehicles," Sgt. Andy Williams from the Jackson Police Dept. says.
"It's important we just keep each other strong and talk about it," says Lt. Elmer Hitt of the Jackson Police Dept.
Jackson police tell us Friday's services were just the beginning of the healing process.
"I think once this week is over, it's been very busy for all of us, we'll have time to reflect and think about the loss. There's tough times to come still," says Hitt.
And officers say the community needs to unite to cope with such a loss.
"I hope citizens know that officers are here to serve them, 24-7, 365 days of the year," says Chief Danish Evskaya from the Memphis Police Dept.
Remembering that service that Officer Bonneau gave his life for.
