When you think of Cadillac, you may or may not think of GM. But, now the automaker is taking steps to make sure the only thing consumers think about is luxury.
"Cadillac has always been treated as an exclusive club," Kelly Rossman-McKinney, of the Rossman Group, said.
It's a new strategy by GM to bolster sales and set it's highest end product apart.
The plan includes removing the GM name from all Cadillac marketing and signage, company-wide sales won't apply to Cadillac cars, plus months ago, employee corporate email addresses were changed to '@cadillac.com' no mention of GM.
We asked Kelly Rossman-McKinney of the Rossman Group if she thinks this marketing strategy will work.
"I cant imagine that disassociating yourself from the parent company will work," she said. "Anyone who buys a car knows who the parent company is."
A Cadillac spokesman tells News Ten the moves are designed to allow Cadillac to stand on its own -- consistent with what other luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes have done successfully.
The people who make the cars aren't offended by the changes, they say, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
"It's no big deal to us," UAW Local 652 President Mike Green said. "It's not like there will be a separation there."
Green said highlighting any of GM's brands is a good thing.
"I'm excited about it, they're putting more money into it," he said. "Now we will show them what we can build."
If sales increase because of the changes, remains to be seen.
"The proof is in the pudding to see if the separation really does well for Cadillac and GM equally," Rossman-McKinney said.
A Cadillac Spokesman tells News Ten the line's new ad campaign will debut in a few weeks.
