Thousands of Michigan residents are looking for relief after severe weather ripped through the state in late May.

More than 5000 victims of the severe weather storms May 20 through May 24 are applying for federal assistance. There are 19 Michigan counties that were declared federal disaster areas on June 30, including Ingham and Jackson counties.

Renters, farmers, businesses, and homeowners are eligible for this help. Victims have 60 days from June 30 to apply for assistance.

FEMA says inspectors should come out within five days after applying, and relief funds should be available 10 days within that.

The phone number to call to apply or ask for more information is 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA).
