The primary election is still months away, but three Republicans from the 7th Congressional District are gearing up for a tough fight.
"The primary ought to be hotly contested," Tim Walberg said. "It should be about the issues."
Walberg is running for his former seat, the one he lost just two years ago to democrat Mark Schauer. Walberg said voters want experience back and that's how he'll distinguish himself from the primary pack.
"I want to create jobs," Walberg said. "You do that by cutting taxes. I've never voted for a tax increase, my record proves that."
Former Marine and political newcomer Brian Rooney said on top of supporting veterans and families with special needs children, he's looking create a business friendly environment.
"I want to get rid of the estate tax," Rooney said. "I want to get rid of the capital gains tax, I want to incentivize people so they'll have more money in their pocket and that will create jobs."
Businessman Marvin Carlson is the third and final candidate. He believes his background will set him apart.
"I'm the person who's actually created jobs and made payroll," Carlson said. "I know what it takes to bring prosperity back to the district and the nation."
Maybe the only thing all three agree on, the 7th district needs a change.
"Mark Schauer doesn't represent the district," Walberg said.
"He's been Nancy Pelosi's top lieutenant," Rooney said.
"Mark Schauer does not represent the district," Carlson said.
Congressman Mike Rogers said the party has three viable candidates this election year in the 7th district.
"So many people have stepped up and said I'm scared for the direction of this country, I want to get involved in this primary," Rogers said.
The question now is, who will the voters choose?
