A former Michigan football player has been convicted of beating a fellow student last March.
Nineteen-year-old Christian Richards, of Pacomina, California, was found guilty yesterday of aggravated assault and assault and battery. The charges stem from a Saint Patrick's Day beating that happened in a residence hall.
Nineteen-year-old Carson Butler had also been charged. He was cleared.
Richards was a reserve defensive back who had five tackles last year. He had been dismissed from the team in March and now faces a July 30 sentencing.
Butler, a tight end, started seven games for Michigan last season and caught 19 passes.
