Democratic Convention Starts in Lansing

Attorney General Jennifer Granholm made her choice for Lt. Governor official on Saturday morning. Senate Democratic Leader John Cherry will be her running mate. Granholm also announced the other candidates that would complete her ticket.

Melvin "Butch" Hollowell and Gary Peters will run for Secretary of State and Attorney General respectively.

Lansing's mayor, David Hollister, who at one point was being considered for the position as Granholm's Lt. Governor running mate, said he's pleased with the democratic ticket, and he's excited to work with Granholm if she is elected.

Saturday afternoon, the mayor hosted a welcome lunch for 2,000 democratic delegates at the Lansing Center. He provided lunch to democrats from all over the state who came to Lansing for the two-day democratic convention, which started Saturday afternoon.
