Twenty-two Jackson Public Schools employees are facing the reality of being without work as the school board approves layoffs.

The layoffs have been in the works for some time as a way to help balance a close to three million dollar budget shortfall. The jobs now on hold are a temporary fix as the district waits to see if grant and federal money will come through.

Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Dan Evans says if the approximately $400,000 is handed down some currently on layoff status could be re-hired. Dan Meier, one of the 22 now without work, says it's still an unsettling feeling.

The school board will know by mid-July if the grant and federal money will be allocated.
