Walter French Academy Closer to Closing

Lansing charter school, Walter French Academy, is hoping for the best but expecting the worst as its board president believes the school will probably close down.

The school's authorizer, Central Michigan University, severed its ties with Walter French and the academy's charter school contract ends at the end of June.

If the school does not find another authorizer before July 1, it will be forced to liquidate its assets.

The school board says it's talking with two potential authorizers including Grand Valley State University and Bay Mills Community College.

A spokesperson from Walter French says if there is no authorizer found within seven to ten days, the school will begin focusing only on its liquidation and eventual close.
