A Maryland-based computer training company with campuses in several states has abruptly closed, prompting an investigation by the Pennsylvania attorney general's office and others.
ComputerTraining.edu's Web site states that the shutdown occurred after the school's primary financier, BB&T Corp., froze its accounts and line of credit and began seizing its assets. The Web site directs students seeking refunds to contact education officials in their state, listing contacts in Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
BB&T spokeswoman A.C. McGraw says it was the company's decision to shut down and she did know immediately if bank accounts had been frozen.
The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is investigating whether state consumer protection laws were violated.
