Students both inside and outside of the tri-county Lansing area will be paying more to attend Lansing Community College come fall.
The LCC Board of Trustees approved a tuition hike as part of its budget Monday night. Students living in Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties will pay 9 percent more. Tuition for Michigan residents outside those three counties will increase by roughly 11 percent.
Trustees say the hike was necessary given growing costs and uncertainty over state funding levels. The deal to close Michigan's current fiscal year budget included delaying some higher education payments.
In other action, the board agreed to study the possibility of chartering Sankofa Shule. The Lansing school is currently chartered by Central Michigan University, which has opted not to continue that support.
The study should be complete toward the end of the month.
