The number one form of violence in American schools is bullying, that according to an instructor at Michigan State University. But, parents, community members and even police sometimes ignore it.

East Lansing is taking a stand to spread awareness because of an incident that occurred all too close to home. Kevin Epling said his son Matt was a victim two years ago. Epling says 14-year-old Matt was at home, after his last day of school, when his friends lured him out of the house. Around the corner from his home, Matt was assaulted by three upper classmen. One month after the incident, Matt was dead in what his father says was an accidental suicide stemming from the assault and the lack of action taken to punish those involved.

Since Matt's death, the city of East Lansing has been addressing the issue of bullying and hazing. An informational forum was held Thursday night.
