We start in Okemos, where Dr. Fred Bean at Ingham Primary Care Center is treating cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. That's a type of depression that usually hits in the winter months, with the onset of shorter days and less sunlight.

You might feel sad, grumpy, moody or anxious, or lose interest in your usual activities.
You may also eat more, crave carbohydrates, gain weight, and sleep more but feel drowsy during the daytime.

You should talk to your doctor about treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder.
There are also things you can do at home to feel better, like exercising regularly, and eating healthy balanced meals to get essential vitamins and nutrients.

Dr. Les Searls at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing is treating severe gastrointestinal upset and indigestion, or dyspepsia.
Symptoms include: discomfort or a burning feeling in the stomach or upper abdomen, nausea, abdominal bloating, belching and gas, sometimes vomiting, and abdominal cramps and pain.

You can take an over-the-counter antacid for occasional heartburn. For chronic indigestion, you may need a prescription antacid. Talk to your doctor about that.

If indigestion is accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, or pain in the jaw, neck or arm, seek medical attention immediately.

Dyspepsia is most likely brought on by overeating, eating too fast, or eating extremely fatty foods over the holiday.
