The number of crashes, injuries, and deaths in Michigan work zones is decreasing, with work zone crashes and injuries at their lowest level during the last six years.
In 2003, there were 5,800 crashes, 1,636 injuries, and 11 fatalities in these areas.
Law enforcement says stiffer penalties are helping reduce the number of accidents.
