According to the office of international students, about 20 to 30 students have been delayed by the U.S. State Department in arriving to study at Michigan State University.

Peter Briggs, director of international students, says that male students from predominantly Muslim countries such as; Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are having their visa approval process slowed.

The U.S. state department is delaying their arrival as the agency intensely screens the students prior to their arrival in the U.S.

The screening process was intensified after the Sept. 11 tragedies.

While security is tightened, Briggs says MSU’s international application activity is up 14 percent. Total enrollment, however, remains a mystery until students finalize their schedules.
