A thousand Michigan school kids got some fresh air and exercise at the State Capitol Wednesday, as part of the annual "All Children Exercise Simultaneously" program.

The ACES program started back in 1989 to encourage students to get in shape and make exercise a part of their lives. Now, officials say millions of children take part in exercise around the world on the first Wednesday of May.

All of the students at Bingham Elementary School in Lansing participated. Educators there say they try and promote healthy eating and exercise to their students. They say a healthy lifestyle can help stop health problems such as obesity and diabetes.

Local state legislators also participated in the event, promoting exercise among Michigan's children.
