Unemployment in Mid-Michigan

Unemployment is stuck around seven percent in Michigan, and those without work say job opportunities are few and far between. With 13,400 without work in Mid-Michigan, it's safe to say some aren't buying President Bush's buzz about the economy recovering and job growth in the state.

Doug Stites, CEO of Capital Area Michigan Works, says our state has been lagging behind. Michigan has the second highest unemployment rate in the nation. Manufacturing jobs are thinning out because of plant closings, and that means there are more people looking for work but less available on the market.

It ends up hurting everyone, especially teenagers searching for the perfect summer position. As for the buzz about the economy recovering, some are keeping their fingers crossed.
