Medicare Drug Cards

There's a cheaper way for senior citizens to pay for those costly prescription drugs. But it may not benefit everyone.

Monday was the first day seniors on Medicare could sign up for prescription drug discount cards. There are 41 cards throughout the state of Michigan, and more are in the process of being approved.

The discounts can range from 10-percent-30-percent, but the AARP says those savings depend on what card seniors choose, the pharmacy they go to, and the drugs they take.

But depending on how many prescriptions seniors need to have filled and how much they pay for them, these cards may not be the best thing.

The annual charge for the cards ranges from zero to $30. The Michigan Pharmacists Association says seniors will be able to switch cards one time only in November.
