The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline jumped 21.1 cents during the past week, setting a new all-time high for the state, AAA Michigan said Monday.

The statewide average of $3.19 per gallon was 34 cents higher than at the same time last year and seven cents more than the previous record of $3.12 set last Aug. 7.

The auto club said the metro area with the most expensive gasoline was Lansing-East Lansing, where an average gallon cost $3.23, up 26 cents from last week's $2.97.

The average price in the Detroit area was $3.16, up 19 cents from last week's $2.97.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 gas stations daily for its report.
