One man is dead and a Lansing Police officer is hospitalized after a late night shootout on Lansing's Southside.
A Lansing Police officer is recovering at Sparrow Hospital after being shot at several times while responding to a home invasion on 800 block of Edgewood Blvd. It happened late Thursday night around 10:30 p.m.
Police say two men were trying to break into the apartment when one of the men fired at the officer while he was entering the home. The officer fired back hitting a 35-year-old man.
The two men were rushed to Sparrow Hospital, where the suspect later died early Friday morning. The other man was caught shortly after about a mile away from the scene in the neighborhood near the Chisholm Golf Course.
The officer who was shot was a 33-year-old, eight-year veteran of the force. Investigators say a bulletproof vest saved his life.
Police aren't releasing many details, and the investigation continues.
