Dansville Schools Locked Down

Dansville's elementary, middle, and high schools were locked down for approximately an hour while Ingham County Sheriff's deputies cleared the building, with the help of a canine team from Lansing.

The incident began because of a message scrawled on the boy's bathroom wall at the high school. The superintendent called it a "vague" and said it didn't threaten a person or a building. He wouldn't say if it referenced the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

Many schools nationwide have been locked down this week in the wake of that tragedy. Friday is also the anniversary of the shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado.

All 950 Dansville students were dismissed and all afternoon events cancelled. The threat was unfounded and deputies left without a suspect.

The seriousness of what happened to your children? Like the school kidnapped them for four hours and paid off the press to say it was only one hour? I am telling you that you would be much more concerned if something did happen and the school did nothing about it ahead of time.

This was not something to just blow off. Our kids were worried and scared. Things like this just dont happen in our small community. Our superintendent needs to find out who did this and take some action, maybe then the person or persons responsible will realize this is no joking matter.

I was at the school, and the lockdown started at 1:45, and the busses didn't leave until around 5:00. To say that the school was only on lockdown for an hour diminishes the fear and the uncertainty of the students, and diminishes what the staff went through. It is a shame your reporters do not check facts before they put them on the evening news. Your coverage was a sham. Dansville is a close community who cares about it's people, and you purposely negated the situation.

how is 1:40pm til 5:20pm aproximately an hour? If it was only an hour then why was my daughter locked in her classroom for 4hrs?? Why downplay the seriousness of what has happened to our children?
