Following Monday's massacre at Virginia Tech, having the proper emergency plan in place is crucial.
The East Lansing School District had two lockdown drills Thursday, one at the High School and one at MacDonald Middle School. Two scenarios played out, at the Middle School the bad guy was inside and students had to be evacuated. At the High School, the threat was outside and the students had to be locked in.
High School Principal Paula Steele says, "We do have a plan and if something breaks out certainly it's a different kind of mode you go into, but you have the basis and foundation."
The timing of the drills was purely coincidental. The state says each school in Michigan must run two lockdown drills each school year in addition to six fire drills and two tornado drills.
