BRIGHTON, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan is losing Sears and Kmart stores in Brighton and five other communities as part of a nationwide set of closings announced by the retail chain.
Sears Holdings Corp. in Hoffman Estates, Ill., says it's closing 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores. On Thursday, the company released locations of 79 of the stores.
Besides a Sears store in Brighton, the Michigan closings include Sears stores in Adrian, Harper Woods and Monroe and Kmart stores in Macomb County's Chesterfield and Washington townships.
Florida is hardest hit with 11 closings. Ohio and Georgia have six each, and Minnesota, North Carolina and Tennessee four each.
The 100 to 120 closings are about 3 percent of the company's 3,560 U.S. Stores. Sears and Kmart merged in 2005.
