One side calls for affordable health care for all, and the other labels it a hostile government takeover.

Democrats and Republicans in mid-Michigan and across the country are split on the issue of health care reform.

Jeff McQueen, a protestor at the rally, said the current health care system works for him so there is no need to fix it.

"I do think [American] have access [to health care] right now. Anyone who's poor can walk into an emergency room and get treatment," said McQueen. "So that's a fallacy that everyone doesn't have access to health care."

Liberal organization MoveOn.org sees things differently. Without a public option there are millions of Americans who will not have proper health care. Organizers at the rally said this bill is a great step in the right direction.

"I think we can make this bill even better," said Erin Fox, coordinator for the MoveOn Lansing. "I think we can cover more Americans. I think we can ensure that everyone has access to affordable health care."

Even though the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the bill, there is still a long way to go. The Senate has to vote on its form of the legislation and then there will be a conference committee to reconcile the two bills.
