The past couple of days have been nothing but an emotional roller coaster for the family of one local soldier.
"Oh my gosh, I was so shocked, I was so worried. Relieved to find out he's okay and ready to go back for duties," says the soldier's cousin, Vivian Pride.
Told at first their soldier, Private Ray Saucedo, had been shot in the Ft. Hood massacre, family is learning Friday he wasn't. He was actually minorly injured trying to escape the shooting. It's a relieving 180 for the family, after his mother sat with us thursday night in disbelief.
"I don't understand why, like how could it happen? That scared the heck out of me, that means it's not as safe as I thought it was, you know?" says mother Willinea Gambo.
Saucedo's cousin, Vivian Pride, spoke with us Friday. She hadn't heard much from Saucedo or his family, and was still worried, even though his injuries are less than originally thought.
"I haven't had a chance to communicate with everyone, but I know they're so relieved," Pride says.
We spoke on the phone to Saucedo's wife, Ashley. She says he was back to work almost immediately after his injury. While the families of so many others are spending this weekend grieving, this family is counting their lucky stars.
