Lansing Brings Budget to the People

In the first of several public budget forums city leaders laid out the issues for Lansing’s 2005 fiscal year budget.

Some of those budget concerns include spending on street repair projects, money for yard waste removal, and other city services including police and firefighters.

Mayor Tony Benavides presented his budget proposal in May, and some council members are concerned with the $2.3 million he plans to take form the city’s rainy day fund.

The forums are designed to gauge citizen needs, discover what can be cut in an effort to maximize city services and make the least painful cuts while maintaining the city’s rainy day savings.
